HDTV and difference between Full HD Ready or HD Ready
HD refers to high-definition and HDTV indicates a television that can display HD content. Full-HD or Full HD Ready TVs have 1,920 vertical lines and 1,080 horizontal lines while HD-ready sets have 768 horizontal lines. So if you were to compare the two, HD ready has lesser horizontal lines and requires a fair amount of resizing to show HD image and in the process results in loss of some of the details. Full HD or Full HD Ready sets display good quality images without the need to resize. To put in simple words, a Full HD Ready TV set consists of more lines of pixels than a HD-ready set, and the more lines the screen contains, the better the picture quality. Though the market is flooded with TV sets having Full HD resolution, there is very little content available to be able to do justice. But with the introduction of Blu-Ray players and of course the PS3, one can enjoy Full HD content on the latest TVs available.
What we suggest
Since Parthiv has a screen size and budget in mind (which is more or less flexible), it has been rather easy for us to suggest potential choices to him. As per his budget of Rs 60,000, we recommend him 42-inch plasma TVs such as LG-42PC5R and 42PC7RV having screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and 852 x 480 pixels.
For LCD TV, the LG-37LC7R or 37LC4R, Samsung-LA37A450C1 or Bordeaux Art LA37R81B, all of which are 37-inch LCDs are recommended. All of these are in the budget range of Rs 54,300 to 69,000. We emphasized on choosing LCD TVs as they have better resolution, good contrast ratio and connectivity and they are the best options for the size segment and application desired by the user. LCD TVs are a natural choice also because they are HD ready they are preferable for their compatibility with HD signals (720p/1080p), while the above stated plasma options are more HD compatible rather than being HD Ready. LCD TVs will offer more bang for the bucks - be it for watching DVD movies or for Internet surfing (when connected to your PC).
