Hamilton Takes Pole for China Grand Prix; Win Will Clinch Title

Lewis Hamilton claimed the pole position for tomorrow's Chinese Grand Prix and may become Formula One's youngest champion should he win the race.

The 23-year-old Briton posted a time of 1 minute and 36.303 seconds in his third qualifying lap in Shanghai, beating Finland's Kimi Raikkonen by 0.342 second. This is Hamilton's seventh pole of the season and the eighth for his McLaren team.

``I will just approach the same as always, nothing spectacular, be myself and drive the way I drive,'' Hamilton said, seeking to nab the drivers' champion title with a fifth win tomorrow. ``We'll definitely give it our best shot.''

Raikkonen's Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa of Brazil, who clocked 1 minute and 36.889 seconds, will start on the second row with Spain's Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton leads the drivers' rankings with 84 points and Massa is five points behind. Poland's Robert Kubica is third at 72 points.

Ferrari tops the constructors' standings at 142 points, seven ahead of McLaren.
