India Builds 301-Run Lead Over Australia in Second Cricket Test

India bowled out Australia for 268, decided not to enforce the follow-on and reached 100-0 to build a lead of 301 runs after three days of the second cricket Test.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra took five wickets on his Test debut as the Australians capitulated in reply to the host's first- innings total of 469 in Mohali. Mishra claimed 5-71.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who scored 102 in the first innings, declined to make Australia bat again. Openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were unbeaten at close of play.

The Australians are aiming to win a ninth straight Test series and have lost only once in their past 28 Tests. The first match of the four-game series was drawn as Australia failed to dismiss India for a second time after setting the host 299 runs to win on the final day in Bangalore.

Sachin Tendulkar passed Brian Lara's record for the most runs in Test history on the opening day in Mohali.

Australia today lost three wickets for 72 runs in the morning session after resuming on 102-4. Mike Hussey was the first out, just after completing his half-century. He made 54. Shane Watson top-scored with 78 and Brett Lee made 35 before the visitors were bowled out shortly after tea.

Sehwag is 53 not out, while Gambhir is unbeaten on 46.

Elsewhere, Bangladesh closed day three of the first Test against New Zealand with a 258-run lead after reaching 184-8 in its second innings in Chittagong.

Shakib Al Hasan, who took 7-36 to restrict New Zealand to 171 in its first innings, then top-scored with 71.

The host is aiming for its first victory in the sport's elite five-day form against a major Test nation. Its only win in 54 previous matches was against Zimbabwe in January 2005
