New York Giants Top 49ers, Cowboys Lose: NFL Week 7

Brandon Jacobs rushed for two touchdowns and Plaxico Burress caught another as the New York Giants beat the San Francisco 49ers 29-17 to remain in first place in their division.

Jacobs opened the scoring at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with a 26-yard run. He added another and finished with 69 rushing yards on 17 carries.

The Giants improved to 5-1 and lead the National Football Conference's East Division, just ahead of the Washington Redskins, who are 5-2 after beating the Cleveland Browns 14-11. The Dallas Cowboys dropped to 4-3 in the NFC East after losing to the St. Louis Rams 34-14.

``We're capable of playing a lot better than we did today, but as I told our players, the object was to win one game,'' Giants coach Tom Coughlin said at a postgame news conference. ``The key factor in the game was the turnovers.''

The New York Jets lost to the Oakland Raiders 16-13 in overtime as Sebastian Janikowski kicked a team-record 57-yard field goal with 2:30 left in overtime at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland.

The Jets (3-3) had tied the game with eight seconds left in the fourth quarter on a 52-yard kick by Jay Feely, yet were unable to score on their three overtime possessions. The Raiders (2-4) got their first win under Tom Cable, who replaced the fired Lane Kiffin as coach.

49ers' Turnovers

At Giants Stadium, San Francisco turned the ball over three times, while the Giants had no turnovers.

49ers quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan threw two interceptions - - both to Giants defensive back Michael Johnson -- fumbled once and was sacked six times.

Manning went 16-of-31 passing for 161 yards without an interception.

At FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, Clinton Portis rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown as the Redskins held off the Browns to keep pace with the Giants in the NFC East.

Derek Anderson completed just 14-of-37 passes for 136 yards for the Browns (2-4).

At the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Steven Jackson rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns as the Rams (2-4) sent the Cowboys to their third loss in four games.

Dallas backup quarterback Brad Johnson threw three interceptions in place of Tony Romo, who fractured his little finger in an overtime loss to the Cardinals a week ago.

Titans Stay Unbeaten

At Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, the Tennessee Titans (6-0) remained the only unbeaten team after topping the Chiefs (1-5) 34-10.

LenDale White had three touchdown runs and 148 yards rushing for the Titans. Teammate Chris Johnson rushed for 168 yards, including a 66-yard scoring run.
