Latest Toshiba 1.8 inch SATA internal hard drives

Toshiba has been working on Serial ATA and Parallel ATA technology for a considerable time now, and this week Toshiba has presented some new devices in this domain. New gadgets are three hard disk drives of the MKxx29GSG series and have SATA interface. They just only differ by their capacity: 120 GB, 160 GB and 250GB. HDDs are of 1.8 inch form factor which is not primarily used for PCs, but for smaller gadgets like portable mini PCs, portable media players, notebooks and mini notebooks or "netbooks" (notebooks that come with price limited by half a thousand dollars average scope and smaller dimensions). So we have a quarter of a terabyte – one of the largest capacities on a 1.8 inch hard drive of them all.

All three drives have same features. Thanks to Serial Advanced Technology Attachment we have 3 Gbps data transfer speed. Disk speed is 5400 revs per minute which is not bad, especially if we compare it to PATA’s 4200 revs. Areal density is also good for 1.8 form factor, it is of 378.8 Gigabit per square inch. Every Gigabyte of internal notebook hard drive consumes 0.0016 watts. More features are: Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) – improves data density, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) – operates user's read and write commands to increase performance, shock sensor and free fall sensor to fasten the disk head that avoids loosening disk head. Internal hard drives have 3 year warranty.

In Toshiba have come up with some serious numbers of SATA drivers sales for this year. Summarizing all the facts they have decided to develop HDDs at least until year 2012. Next three or four years it will surely be profitable to produce hard discs because by that time SSDs will not fall in price to an equal cost per Gigabyte with hard drives
